Queer Healing Co: Linocut Relief Printmaking to Benefit Suicide Prevention

Introducing Queer Healing Co. a creative project born out of a desire to ward off burnout and integrate my work as a trauma therapist at Intentions Therapy.

In January of 2025, I took a Linocut printing workshop with my sibling in Durham, NC at The Scrap Exchange. It unlocked a new hyperfixation for me.

Over the last year, I have been playing and creating and carving and it’s been a great joy to have a creative practice that feels really ~mine~ again!!!! I have fallen in love with relief printmaking as a process. The repetition and routine of it really works for my AuDHD brain and ever-changing capacity.

As a queer, neurodivergent and disabled therapist I am no stranger to the shadows. I reflect often on the need for both darkness and light, the spectrum of nuance between the positive and the negative, and how to find one’s self in the grey space. I was drawn to Linocut designs before I even knew what they were called. The contrast depicted and balance between light and dark is so pleasing to my eyes.

Here’s the basic process behind Lino print making:

  1. Start with your design

  2. Transfer your design onto a block of Linocut

  3. Carve your Linocut block

  4. Print your design with ink onto paper or fabric

Being a self-employed care worker has given me space to explore and feel out my own perspective and approach to healing.  In November of 2025, Intentions Therapy turns 5! I am grateful for the ways my approach to offering care has shape-shifted over the last 5 years. I am way less cookie-cutter and way more grounded in my body and intuition. I people please less, pace myself more, and continue to do what I can to meet the folks who trust me with compassion and curiosity.

As my clinical practice settles into a more authentic and sustainable groove, I have been noticing the parts of my life that need more intention, containment and care. In late 2024 and throughout 2025, I have been grieving. In my losses, I have needed to find new ways to hold my own attention and to offer containment to all that feels uncertain or fragmented. I was craving a deeper creative practice.

This Queer Healing Co. project was born out of a need to find more creative ways to metabolize the lessons contained within my therapy work, and from a simple desire to reinforce my learning through a process involving some level of joyful repetition. The QHC is the creative little sibling of Intentions Therapy.

The QHC supports suicide prevention by donating 85% of profits from art sold in the Etsy printshop to local and national suicide prevention initiatives. Quarterly, a new initiative is chosen to benefit from the sales from the QHC Printshop. Currently, and until the end of 2025, 85% of each sale will be donated to The Trevor Project - for their lifesaving work providing affirming crisis care to the LGBTQIA+ community.

I am raising funds for Trevor through direct donations in memory of my grandmama, Maria as well as by donating 85% profits from sales in my Etsy printshop until the new year.

As a Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapist, I get to witness new learning in my clients all the time. It has been fascinating to learn more about neuroscience by integrating KAP into my practice - essentially, what I learned in high school psych class is true “neurons that fire together wire together” - one of the ways we can literally shape the circuitry in our mind is by cultivating practices of diligent reinforcement in the things that matter the most for us.

For me, that looks like investing in my hobby of relief printmaking through positive reinforcement. This type of reinforcement looks different for everyone based on our desires, values and preferences, but for me it looks like pairing my creative practice with things I enjoy: good music, gifting/sharing, comfy clothes, mental & emotional integration, and (depending on my mood) either solitude or time together with friends and loved ones.
